Buddy's Restaurant

Little miss Haana created the Buddy's Restaurant specializing in breakfast fare, a while back. She crafts the menu specially for a weekend morning brunch. Then she and I prep things, decide on the fruit platters and dip, drinks and table placements. Then when the guests arrive, she is the wait staff that takes everyone's orders as well as the chef whipping out the main dishes. Me and dad are the sous chefs, with suppprting casts of side dishes, drinks and fruit bowl and dips.

A couple weeks back we had family and friends come over to Buddy's restaurant for brunch. And once again the restaurant was a big hit! We now may need to look into expanding our menu into lunch fare too!

Great job Buddy's restaurant on a loyal as well as expanding clientale.

Ice Cream Truck

I was on my way to pick up Bobby after his school, was almost there, that i noticed this interesting looking van next to me. When i looked closer it was an Ice cream truck!! But right then, i had to turn to pick up Bobby, and the van went onwards.

I got Bobby from school and i told him what i saw. We decided we have to do something about this. But first we had to go and pick up little miss Haana. Once we bagged her, we were on our way. Not towards home this time. But towards nearby store to buy ourselves a box of ice cream we will eat at home. Bobby and i decided on the ones we want (Bobby told me which one i need to get), we got a box of frozen texas toasts as well and were on our way home.

Once home, Bobby and i have an ice cream eating routine. First, you have to share the ice cream (I eat his ice cream, he shares with me). Then each of us takes one bite from the same ice cream and immediately kiss each other and then laugh out loud. Then we finish that bite in our mouths. Then, repeat! I like our routine. It's so funny!

Summer is Over (But the Heat Continues)

When i was in school, summer vacations were awsome!! And, by the same measure, ending of the summer vacation was a sad and sobering affair. I never looked forward to going back to school. Somehow the summer was never long enough.

Not so in our household now though. Little miss Haana had been looking forward to going back to school. The excitement was palpable. In the weeks leading up to starting of school, a couple get together with the girls were arranged. Little miss Haana and her friends hung out at home, went to coffee shop; played arcade games. Then a few days before school, clothes and accessories were decided and arranged, a new lunch box was ordered. Little miss Haana made a meal plan for her lunch during the week, and updated the grocery list with all the things she needed to prepare her own school lunches!

This past week, every day, in the evening after dinner, she brings out her lunch box, fills up the 3 compartments with a meal, fruit, yogurt, crackers, a candy and a drink - everything! The week started with a home-made smoked salmon sushi. Then another day of a sushi bowl (sticky rice, spicy mayo, smoked salmon, furikake, sesame seeds,  nori). Then one day she took fried rice. Thursday and friday she cooked herself 2 egg omlettes and took ketchup in a bowl. All this plus, cucumber, grapes, cherries, 1 piece of chocolate, a few crackers, yogurt, and eithee orange juice or today - home-made vanilla latte (yes she made that herself as well!). She fills her water bottle in the night with water, puts pieces of cucumber and strawberries in it, before leaving it in the fridge.
In the morning, she gets ready, heats up the meal, puts ice cubes in her water bottle, and fits it all in her lunch bag. After school, she washes the lunch box as soon as she gets back.

I've been trying to gether to make her fancy lunches for me too! But she's not agreeing to it. Too much work apparently!

I'm so proud of her! She's so fancy and so amazing!

Casting Bobby

In July, Bobby boy had an adventure, and so did everyone else. Playing on the playing ground, attempting to jump off from about 4 feet high platform, he fell on the wood chips below. He was crying when i got to him, holding his left arm. I picked him up and got him to the car, thinking he's just rattled. The boy has high pain tolerance. He was still crying in the car, then most of the way back home. Every movement to his arm, and he was very uncomfortable. I realized he needs to see a doctor and get xrays right away. It was Friday night 830pm. With me was Bobby n miss Haana's Godfather Keith, who stays back at home with Haana n doggo, while me and bobby drove to emergency. Raj had just gone to India a few days back.

Bobby was still in discomfort and pain when we got to emergency room at 9pm. They gave him painkillers, did xrays, put him in a splint, did xrays again. Both bones in the left arm were broken, they said. But with the arm in a splint, Bobby was not in pain or discomfort anymore. They advised to see a orthopedic doctor on Monday. We came back home at midnight. Sleepy, and very tired from the day's events.

Next week, i called around and secured an appointment on Monday afternoon with an orthopedic doctor. More waiting rooms and xrays later when we saw her, she said they bones are twisted so they cannot be put in q cast as they are. They may require rods to straighten the bones as they set. Children's bones start healing quickly. She recommended seeing a pediatric orthopedic surgeon right away. It was a day full of anxiety, as i started looking up doctors right away. When i got to see the pediatric ortho surgeon, they took more xray and finally gave me some good news. Turns out children's bones have an uncanny ability to straighten out as they heal. He showed me several before n after pictures with children not needing surgeries, only a cast that is moulded to support the bone to straighten out. It was a welcome news not thinking of an operation (and anaesthesia) for just a 4 year old baby. They sent us to the cast office where the technician put the wet cast and then applied pressure for 2 minutes to mold it. This was painful for Bobby, and those 2 minutes seemed like a millenia. After they were done, we couldn't wait to get out! We had to return back for xrays every week for 3-4 weeks, get a change in cast, then come back after 4 weeks. And that we did!

Next week Bobby's cast comes off! And i'm looking forward to it! But who knows what kind of hand is inside the cast after almost 8 weeks! Could it be a dinosour arm? A monkey arm like curious George? Could it be a bird arm with feathers? Could it be a spider arm long and spindly? We have been talking about it but we will have to wait till next week to find out!

Bobby's School Report

Bobby's school teacher sent a note back home yesterday - not for the first time either.

I attempted to talk to Bobby about it, but it did not go very well. This is what he said, "I don't like working in school, so i all not going to do that. I like to play, so i just want to play. So I'm going to do that. I don't like school. ".

I was dumb founded, staring at him, blinking and fighting (unsuccessfully) to stop myself from laughing!!
