Because I am Mumma

Several times a week little Miss Haana would come and tell me something she decided or thought or something that happened that i already knew about. I listen to her wondrous excitement and in the end tell her that i already knew that,  "You know why?". She asks why? "Because I'm Mumma!".

As per my plans, for Miss Haana I should have already elevated to super hero status by now. I'm not certain why that has not happened until now😊

Turf War

Lately role reversal has been very popular with me. Until recently.

Little Miss Haana seeks to get what she wants. When she doesn't get what she wants, she tries to be a very good, big girl and ask nicely. And then she asks again. And again. And again.. yes, constantly. In order to drive home the point that this can be annoying, I tell her I am the little girl and she's Mumma.

Yesterday at bed time when little Miss Haana was in the repeat mode, I said I am Gugu now. And then I wailed: "Mumma, I want a sticker".
"I want a sticker Mumma", I repeated.
"I want a big sticker. I want a sticker Mumma! Mumma, Mumma, I want a sticker. Mumma, I want a sticker now, Mumma. Mumma! STICKER!......."
For about 30 seconds I went on about how badly I needed a sticker.
The big little girl kept her patience and cool and kept listening. Smiling. Understanding the joke.
And then finally giving up the turf declared, "No, I don't want to be Mumma anymore!".

We giggled and laughed for a good 15 minutes after!

Squashing Bumblebees

Heard from the back seat of the car while driving home yesterday, with actions and replete with musical effects:

Oh my Mumma help me clean
I'm squashing my baby bumblebee
Eww! It's all over me,
I'm squashing my baby bumblebee.

Repeated today by most popular demand!

Pop Quiz

This evening as usual I picked up Miss Haana from her day care and we were on out way back home. What I wasn't aware of, was that it was pop quiz time.

Just out of the blues, I thought it was appropriate to check if I picked the right baby from the daycare. So, while driving I bantered, "Gugu, are you Gugu? Is that you Gugu?" She said "Yes. It's Gugu. It's called Suhaana".
"Oh, is your name Suhaana?"
"Yes, it's called Suhaana. You're right".
"What's your name Mumma?"
"Uh, I don't know Gugu".
"Mumma name is Rangoli".
"Oh, is that right?"
"Yes, that's right"!
"What's Papa name, Mumma?"
Continue playing dumb: "I don't know!"
..
I wasn't scoring very well on this pop quiz. But at least I was being told what the right answers were!

Better

Can't believe I'm actually posting this, but as Miss Haana would say: "Here goes.."

Yesterday while picking up Miss Haana from her day-care I asked the usual stuff- Did you have fun today? Did you play with blocks? Did you play with everyone? Did you finish your food? ... Answer to each question was a repetitive yes. So I decided to shake it up a little.

I asked - Did you like playing blocks better or cars?
Blocks.
Did you like Didi better or Kanha?
Didi.
Did you like Aunty better or Uncle? (The lady's husband was home that day).
Aunty.
Did you like Anika better or Anisha?
Anika.
Did you like duddu (milk) better or khaana( food)?
Duddu (no surprise there).
Did you like cheese better or yogurt?
Cheese.
Did you like...
...
...
We went on and on for quite some time till I don't know why I just couldn't resist it:
Do you like Mumma better or Papa?
Papa
!!!!!!!!!!!
"Oww Guguuuuu! Mumma is sooo saaddd!!"
To which the little girl replies:
Mumma, it's okay Mumma. Are you alrite Mumma? It's okay!

Aquarium

The little girl has another viral throat infection - the third in the last 1 month. We both were in her doctors' waiting room this afternoon watching fishes in their aquarium. There were tiny little fishes- "Baby fishes", medium sized fishes- "Mumma fishes" and then there were bigger fishes- "Papa fishes".

Then I saw one of the fishes was eating those pellets from the sand. I told the little girl- "Look the fish is eating khaana (food)".
I had her attention.
Then I asked- "Is the fishy eating bread?"
"Yes".
I prodded on: "Is the fishy eating pasta?"
"Yes".
"Dos she also like rice?"
"No. Fish eating chicken!".
I laughed and silently thanked she hadn't said the fish is eating a fish (there seemed only herbivorous fishes in the aquarium - as best we could tell there was no carnage)!

All Around The World

Babies all around the world are saying Mumma (or the translation into different languages thereof) right now. All except my little bird, who calls out to Papa instead! :)
